Summary: A film on the life of the eminent vocalist Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur. It is conceived as a narrative re-construction with musical compositions associated with key events from his life, accompanied by Mansur’s voice. The narrative consists of five segments: Mansur’s birth under an inauspicious star; his apprenticeship with an itinerant drama troupe; his study of classical music as a disciple of Pandit Neelkant Buwa of the Gwalior gharana and later of Ustad Manjhi Khan of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana and after his death, of his younger brother, Bhurij Khan Saheb. The film is interspersed with reminiscences and comments of the maestro. It took him many years of struggle and sacrifice to emerge as a doyen of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. His commitment did not allow him to spend much time at home with his family. But he made a significant contribution to Indian classical music. The film concludes with a sequence visualised as a cinematic homage to the great vocalist who died during the making of the film, sponsored by the External Publicity Division, Government of India.
