Summary: Smita gets married to wealthy Shree Deshmukh, who lives in a joint family consisting of his dad, Dinkar; mom, Nalini; two brothers: Ravi & Ramakant, and their wives: Rajni & Ragini. They live harmoniously until Smita wins a lottery purchased for her by Ravi, then their lives regress to such an extent that Ravi and Ramakant move out with their wives. Smita gets pregnant and subsequently gives birth a baby boy, Manas, and hopes that the family gets reunited. But she is in for a few more surprises when she finds out that Shree has taken to alcohol and is frequenting a prostitute, Sonali; Manas goes missing; while an enraged Devi Maa Lakshmi decides to abandon the Deshmukh household once and for all.
