Summary: Gohar in a classic modernisation melodrama exploring the consequences of female autonomy. Kusum (Gohar) rejects her
avaricious uncle's decision to marry/sell her to
a rich man and is adopted by Seth Kisandas
(Adajania). She meets his urbanised son Jayant
(E. Bilimoria) and his friends Ramesh (Yakub)
and Kishori (Mehtab). The love story of Kusum
and Jayant explores the complications ensuing
from a woman's freedom to choose. The issue
is resolved only after Ramesh molests her: she
defends herself and is tried for attempted
murder.
