Summary: Widely scattered in India's hundreds of thousands of villagers are artisans who have practised their craft in leather, ivory, metals and clay for centuries. Today the artisans of India are called upon by the exigencies of war to produce articles of more utilitarian value, and the man who used to make shapely brocade slippers has turned his skill to producing strong leather boots for India's armed forces. His is no solitary example, for thousands of craftsmen all over the country are following in his footsteps and are producing requirements of War. This short film is a vivid record of India's War Effort, not that of India's industries of her large industrial cities but the War Effort of her villages, of India's hereditary craftsmen who are pitting their skill and toil against India's enemies.
