Summary: Evolution of transportation history, culminating in how transport is being used for war effort, and also appealing to public to use railways and other means of locomotion sparingly.
This is a brilliant documentary about the evolution of transport through the ages beginning with the needs of primeval man. It shows how animals, and later, steam and electric motive power were harnessed to the needs of humanity as civilisation progressed. The narrative is spoken by an old man explaining to his curious grandchildren how the horse replaced the bullock, and the motor car and the steam engine replaced the horse as a result of man's inventive genius. Canoes and frail sea-going bark are also shown being substituted by sailing ships and liners while the airoplane puts the final crown on man's achievement in the realm of transport. The film then demonstrates how all the means of transport at man's disposal today are being utilised for fighting the War against Aggression and ends with an appeal to use the railways and other means of locomotion as little as possible so that they may play a part in bringing Victory nearer. Well written and cleverly directed, this short film will live in the memory of audiences for a long time.
