Summary: The Khaki-clad figure of the Indian soldier is familiar all over the world today. He has proved his courage and gallantry on many a field and has won the highest rewards for valour. But little, too little, is known of the Sepoy's background, of his mode of life before the War ... We are far too prone to think of him as a gallant figure in Khaki who has risen miraculously from nowhere to guard our homes. 'Our Men of Steel' picks up the story of the average Indian Sepoy at the very beginning, taking the audience to the farms and the fields where the future recruit begins his life. It shows him engaged in the pursuits of the average farm-lad, taking on more and more ardous jobs in the fields as age and strength increase. Then one day he is a grown man and hears his country's call. He answers it at once. Follows a period of intensive training, drill, marches, rifle practice, the whole round of the military curriculum, from which he emerges every inch a fighting man. The film will appeal for its informal treatment and is a valuable documentary about India's Sepoy who has carved a niche, all his own, for gallantry and devotion to duty.
