Summary: Part of the Indian Experiment series. Documentary on industry and agriculture in the central state of Andhra. Sequences on a typical village family depict the traditional social order. Visits from a traveling fortune — teller and roving musicians show the strength of time—honoured rituals and customs. Among the industries described are ship—building; rice and tobacco farming and processing; dam construction on the Krishna river; and an archaeological excavation site. The importance of boat tranportation on the intricate system of backwater canals is stressed and footage includes images of the canal lock system designed by Sir Arthur Cotton.
