Summary: This film depicts the project jointly undertaken by India and Afghanistan to
restore great Buddhist monuments and paintings at Bamiyan. The Buddhist
influence of India travelled northward through Afghanistan, undergoing in
the process the influences of Greco-Roman and Sassanian cultures. Bamiyan,
lying at the very heart of the Hindukush figures prominently in the ancient
route map of travellers, traders and missionaries. The Bamiyan Buddhas
connect Afghanistan to Ajanta and Kanheri in India. At Bamiyan, a Big
Buddha, 55 metre-high is believed to have been carved in the 6th century AD.
The 38-metre high Small Buddha, at the other end of the cliff is attributed by
art historians to the 7th century.
