Director: Prashant Bhilare
Summary: PoHe (beaten rice) is a breakfast delicacy devoured by many, mostly in India, Pakistan and Nepal. It is easy to prepare and cooks within a few minutes. Being gluten free, it is a healthy food as well. Through the short film, the director explores the theme of "People who bond over food". The screenplay amalgamates "the idea of a quest" - the beginning of a (any) journey and "wisdom" - which comes with age. The short film features two story lines - "The Two Friends" and "The Old Couple". They are simply, People. They do not personify any figure of speech. "Vrundawani Sarang", a raga plays on a Shehnai, the Indian flute, in the background. In India, a Shehnai rendition is played on auspicious occasions like a wedding, which is a beginning of a journey for two people. While the old lady talks about the benefits of a gluten free healthy food, the young friend cooks a delicious looking plate of "PoHe" for his guest. The director keeps an ambiguous tone to the track of the two friends, avoiding to define the bond they share. Hence, they can be interpreted as two friends meeting over a plate of food or a queer couple. The ambiguous nature of their track makes it open for the viewers to construe the story their way. The roses are a simile for bond. The director employs it as a plot element to connect the two story lines while still keeping the tracks independent of each other.
