Summary: Student Kusum Kumari (Kanan Devi) is a hit at a college concert while her tutor, the composer and poet (Saigal), is ignored. After marrying the rich Deendayal (Laha/Nawab), she realises she loves the poet. Her husband tries to please her by publishing the poet's work, making him famous, which leads to further complications. The film made an important contribution to Saigal's image, helping to define the Indian version of the romantic stereotype of the artist, a figure later mobilised by e.g. Guru Dutt in Pyaasa (1957).
