Summary: D. Shankar Singh’s Mahatma Pics’ best-known film is a ‘folklore’ movie modelled on the Telugu fantasy genre (cf. Patala Bhairavi, 1951). An evil magician indulging in human sacrifices changes his protesting daughter into a parrot. He then changes a yogi’s daughter into a snake and wants to sacrifice the king of Mahendrapuri but the hero manages to save the king. Co-producer B. Vittalacharya continued the genre in his Kannada and Telugu films.
