Summary: Costume period movie about the life of the best-known poet in the Urdu language, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib (1797-1869) who was also for a while the court poet appointed by the last Mughal King Bahadur Shah Zafar. The film, chronicling Ghalib’s (Bhushan) rejection and final acceptance by the royal court is mainly a love story between the poet and a courtesan he calls Chaudhvin (Suraiya). The ever-popular Ghalib poetry is sung here by Suraiya, Talat Mahmood and Mohammed Rafi.
