Summary: To escape a false charge of fratricide, Maranamarthanda Zamindar (Balachander) leaves his wife Karpagavalli (Sandhya) and moves to Sri Lanka with his daughter Maragatham (Padmini), assuming the names Anandar and Alamu. When his brother-in-law Varendran (Sivaji) arrives in Sri Lanka on holiday and meets them, he falls for Alamu not knowing that she is his niece. Eventually, the fugitives return to Tamil Nadu and their names are cleared with the help of Varendaran and Butler Gundan (Chandrababu).
