Summary: Sometimes considered the second film (after Annakkili, 1976) to take the Tamil cinema out of the studio, Bharathirajaa’s debut is a love story in which a young maiden, Mayil (Sridevi), has fantasies about marrying a fashionable urban youth. Her dreams are shattered when the village idiot Sappani (Kamalahasan) she marries rescues her from the local bully Parattayan (Rajnikant). Unfortunately he kills the bully and has to go to jail but she will wait for him. The musical established Sridevi as a major Tamil star.
