Summary: Realist melodrama. An old man has his daughter Chenna (Shobha) married to an aged drunkard because of a promised dowry. The old man’s progressive son opposes this ‘trade’ and further defies his father by marrying Parvati. The son has to set up house in the Harijan section of the village and is forced to become involved in corrupt village politics. Along with T. Madhava Rao’s Chillara Devullu (1975) and B.S. Narayana’s Voorummadi Brathukulu (1976), which also address rural Telangana politics, this film constitutes a current of realist New Telugu cinema.
